Abstract:
Tipulidae is one of the groups with high diversity in Diptera, Nematocera. To date, more than 4,000 species of extant and fossil species have been recorded, distributed on all continents except Antarctica. Among them, nine genera and 139 fossil species have been reported, with their geological age ranging from the Late Jurassic to the Miocene. In this paper, the venation patterns of representative genera and subgenera of fossil Tipulidae are redrawn, the research history and the distribution of fossil Tipulidae in different geological periods are summarized, and research challenges and future prospects are discussed.
