Abstract:
The fossil Oedogoniales, Oedogonium yui sp.nov. were collected from the patchy reef clusters of the Sanqushan Formation (Asgill, late Ordovician) in Yushan County,Jiangxi Province,China. Oedogonium yui sp.nov.has simple filaments of discoid and circular cells which are interpreted as possessing both anteridia and oogonia. It is similar to the modern Oedogonium, but is much larger than the Devonian Paleooedogonium micrum . Subspherical oogonia cells are in series of 2 to 4 and 0.056-0.065mm in diameter.Discoid anteridia alternate with oogonia or in series of 2 to 3 in the middle part of filaments and more than 20 in the terminal part of the chain. Filaments 1.2mm or more than 2mm in length and 0.04-0.068mm in width. The cells of basal part are irregular but 0.11mm in diameter.
